About Dubai

The UAE is a Middle Eastern country located between the Gulf of Oman and Saudi Arabia. Formed in 1971, UAE has seven states, one of which is Dubai, the subject of this article.

The UAE is one of the richest countries in the world, courtesy of its extensive oil reserves. As the world hunger for energy grew, UAE found itself in the unique position of sitting atop huge oil reserves that would eventually feed its growth. Because of oil, the UAE is one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, with Dubai as the crowning jewel.

Dubai, because of its reputation as a hub of international business, industry (especially oil), has attracted foreign workers in large droves. Today, almost two thirds of the Dubai population is made up of foreigners. Indians, Americans, Japanese, Chinese – Dubai’s population is composed of people from all sorts of backgrounds. This has made Dubai one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world.

Dubai, being a desert, has very dry and hot weather. It rains rarely, and if it does, its mostly in the winters. The weather is sunny and cloudless most of the other times of the year. However, because of modern amenities, the hot weather does not count as a factor for future travelers or immigrants.

Although the capital of UAE is Abu Dhabi, Dubai is easily the cultural and tourism capital of the country. A unique feature of Dubai is the openness of its society, and the racial/religious harmony between people of varying ethnic groups. Dubai stands as a wonder of modernity – a city of huge skyscrapers and malls in the middle of the desert.

Dubai is a amazing destination for the casual tourist with an interest in shopping. Widely known as a city of malls, Dubai can intoxicate the most reluctant of shoppers. With malls that span several football stadiums, tourists will find a lot to love in this city.

Dubai is also a city of architectural wonders. The looming skyscrapers, the wide boulevards, the huge marina, the audacious hotels – all these can make a fan of modern architecture heady with delight.

Dubai is a great destination for a casual week with your beloved, for business, for shopping, for its cuisine, and for its ethnic diversity and harmony.
