Burj Al Arab Dubai
The Gem in Dubai’s Skyline
The Burj Al Arab Dubai is one of the true marvels of modern engineering. It is the second tallest building in the world that is used exclusively as a hotel. Standing at 321 m (1,050 feet), the Burj Al Arab Dubai, with its unmistakable sail like structure (no wonder it is called the “Arab Sail”), is a sight to behold.
The Burj Al Arab is located on an artificial island some 300 meters from the famous Jumeirah beach. Like a lot of the new properties in Dubai, such as the Palm Jumeirah, it is perhaps apt that a building that symbolizes Dubai’s urbanization stands atop a man-made island.
In the words of Burj Al Arab’s architect, Tom Wright, this hotel was built as a monument that would become synonymous with the city, like Sydney’s Opera House, New York’s Statue of Liberty, or Paris’ Eiffel Tower. Truly, today, any image of the Burj Al Arab brings Dubai immediately to mind.
The Burj Al Arab, despite its size, holds only 202 bedroom suites. Because of the limited number of rooms, it is always booked to capacity. The Burj Al Arab is also among the most expensive hotels in the world with rates starting at $2,000 per night, and topping off at $28,000 per night for the top of the line Royal Suite.
The Burj Al Arab is well known for its restaurants, especially the award winning Al Muntaha (Arabic for “Highest”) located 200 meters above the sea level and looking straight into the Persian gulf, and the Al Mahara (Arabic for “The Oyster”) that features a huge seawater aquarium and offers an amazing view.
In terms of sheer opulence and magnificence, there are few hotels in the world that can match the Burj Al Arab Dubai. It is a sight one simply can’t miss when traveling to this city.
